Is the Striped Passions Series your first journey into writing?
“Actually no. The Striped Passions Series is my debut writing in the paranormal romance genre. I have published works in romantic suspense and humour under another pseudonym as well.”
And D.B. Shayne is a pseudonym?
“It’s a combination- part pen name, part real name.”
What got you interested in writing paranormal/supernatural stories?
“I’ve always loved paranormal stories. I am from the Caribbean island Barbados, and tales about shape shifting beings and spirits were a staple of folklore; so you can say it was a natural progression.”
Talk a bit about how you got started with the first story in the series.
“I actually had the idea for Hot Fur Stripes from about six years ago. The rough draft went through a few titles and many changes in setting and characters. There were a few parts though that remained the same, I knew those particular elements of the story were the essence of the book and without them it wouldn’t be the same. I decided to create a mythical country for the story to unfold, that way anyone reading it could relate to the surroundings and not have to correlate their knowledge of factual locations with fictional settings.”
Who are your favourite authors in the paranormal/supernatural genre?
“I am a fan of Patricia Briggs’ Mercy Thompson Series and one of the reasons I like those stories is because they don’t just feature one type of supernatural being-you will find werewolves, vampires and other mythical creatures. I also enjoy stories by Nora Roberts- her Key Trilogy is one of my favourite series.”
Do you have a favourite character(s) in the series so far?
“Actually I do-Tyler Devereux is my favourite character so far, he is featured in Longing Fur Stripes, Book Three in the series (and it’s not because he is a writer-lol!).”
What can a fan expect from D.B. Shayne in the future?
“More passionate shifter tales, steamy encounters, suspense and drama!
Any final comments?
“Thanks to everyone who has taken a chance on reading my work and for your support and I invite you to drop me a line or two and tell me about your favourite scenes and characters or just to say hello!”
